A splendid large antique French Art Nouveau handmade enamel brooch of wild roses on a glowing sky blue background within a beautiful gilt setting. It is signed on the back. The extraordinary three-dimensional image gives the impression of stained glass.
Trombone clasp.
For centuries of jewelry-making, roses have symbolised grace, love and sometimes passion. In ancient Greek mythology, the wild rose is a powerful symbol of love and adoration, with strong ties to Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of beauty and love. In fact, Aphrodite is often portrayed with a crown of wild roses resting atop her head.
