Are you bold but not brassy? Then this fabulous statement necklace from the 1960s is for you! A magnificent signed and numbered necklace from the house of Napier, designers of some of the best costume jewelry of the late 1800s to the 1900s. Featuring extra-large heavily gold-plated links, this necklace is in near-perfect condition without any signs of age or tarnish.

Napier jewelry is known for its bold styles, especially popular in the mid-20th century. The brand became famous for its clean, modernist designs, chunky statement pieces, and trend-forward aesthetics that often mimicked high fashion without the high price.

Founded in 1875 as Whitney & Rice in Attleboro, Massachusetts, Napier originally made men’s watch chains. In 1922 it was renamed The Napier

Company, after president James Napier, who led a major rebranding and design shift. In the 1920s–1930s they produced Art Deco–inspired pieces and gained popularity for fashion-forward designs. Then came the 1950s–1960s (Golden Era): Napier became known for glamorous yet accessible jewelry—think bold gold-plated metals, chunky chains, faux pearls, and big floral or geometric motifs. It was worn by celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Mamie Eisenhower. Today vintage Napier pieces are highly collectible, valued for their quality craftsmanship and iconic mid-century style.

Sourced in France and curated by Paris-based Vivienne Birt for Chateau Love, this necklace embodies the timeless sophistication and meticulous artistry that defines our carefully selected chateau-worthy collection of luxurious antique and vintage jewelry.
