This one-of-a-kind, signed French antique hand-painted brooch has a very chateau-worthy image of a magnificently carefree lady in a splendid pink dress enjoying the delights a tree-swing in a park.
Trombone clasp.
The image is based on “The Swing” (French: “L'Escarpolette”), also known as “The Happy Accidents of the Swing” (French: “Les Hasards heureux de l'escarpolette”, the original title), is an 18th-century oil painting by Jean-Honoré Fragonard in the Wallace Collection in London. It is considered to be one of the masterpieces of the Rococo era and is Fragonard's best-known work. Her shoe has flown off, but this has not dampened her delight. Statuary cherubs watch in wonder. This gorgeous brooch is carefully protected under glass and surrounded by an intricate rolled gold frame.
In 1920, the poem "Portrait of a Lady" by William Carlos Williams is believed to reference Fragonard's work and this painting in particular.
